I'm a 5th generation Texan. My family tree is a mix of German, Czech, Irish, English, Welsh and French. My first name is from one of my ethnic backgrounds. And in the strange, but true column, it is literally the word for 'yesterday' in a language not of my ethnic background. A former co-worker told me and I thought he was joking so I looked up an online dictionary and a paperback one. It's true! My first name's not a common name or word so the odds of this happening, with the exact same spelling tickles me to pieces. And this means that I can take the Beatles song "Yesterday" as my name song. *beams* To go from hardly anyone being able to pronounce my name correctly while growing up to actually having a name song blows my mind.
I grew up in SE Texas, moved to the 'big city' for post-grad degree. After living in DFW for 14 years and 2 days I moved back to the piney woods of East Texas to help family. It's alright here, but I miss the Metroplex.
Learning languages has taken a backseat recently. Going through some old family items I found pictures & letters going back to at least the early or mid-1800's. Also between paper and online records I've gotten bit by the genealogy bug.
